Member Biography, N8FY - Kim

My Name is Kim and my call is N8FY (ex KD8CNU) I have been a scanner listener for at least 17 years, I have my own business Jewelry Design, for about 5 years now. I enjoy fishing, Photography of Nature and Lighthouses. I am into Lampwork Beadmaking that involves a flame and a torch.

Aside from being a scanner listener that is what brought me into Ham Radio, in Fall of 2005, I purchased a scanner that happened to have the Ham Bands on it so I listened there and heard one of the VE'S (K8ZKJ) talking about the Technician class at Milford High School, So I also heard him mention the ARRL website to who he was talking to and I went and looked up the information and attended the last 2 weeks of this class 1 night a week, then I took my Technician test December 2005, I passed, my first Radio was a Kenwood TH F6A, Then I purchased a Diamond mobile antenna for 2 meters and then another Yaesu FT 7800 for the house then a Yaesu FT 8800 for the car, Then Just before Dayton 2006 I passed my General, In Dayton I bought a Icom 706 MK II G, than in August 2006 I passed my Extra. I had no Idea after getting the Technician ticket, I would enjoy Ham Radio So much.

I had made a deal with myself that I would get to the Extra before I had been licensed for 1 year, I accomplished that in 8 months. This Photo was taken Easter Morning 2007, For a presentation that Ham Test Online is doing in Dayton.

On This day I was fixing my wire antenna. I am getting pretty good with a slingshot. I have met a lot of good people because of Ham Radio, not just Elmers, they have become friends.

73 and Good DX, Kim N8FY
